Humble Beginnings: The Birth of Outback Community Mission

Outback Community Mission (OCM) began as a seed planted in my heart, nurtured over years of dreams, visions, and deep reflections. As a Christian and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, I’ve always felt a call to service—a call that became clearer as I journeyed through life with my family. Today, I want to share how this mission began and where we hope to go.

The Vision

"And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." – Isaiah 30:21

In 2014, I started receiving dreams and visions that I came to interpret as God’s mission for my family and me: to reach out to the communities scattered across the vast Australian Outback. These impressions felt deeply personal yet undeniably divine, guiding me to see the unique needs of these communities and the role we could play in meeting them.

Through prayer and reflection, I began to see these dreams not just as fleeting moments but as a call to action—a mission to bring hope, support, and connection to those living in some of Australia’s most isolated areas.

From Dreams to Action

For years, the vision remained a collection of thoughts, prayers, and plans. It wasn’t until 2020-22 that I began taking deliberate steps to transform these ideas into reality. This was a period of immense learning and growth, as I navigated the practicalities of starting a Not-For-Profit organization while continuing my theological studies and balancing my roles as a husband and father.

"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established." – Proverbs 16:3

In 2023, I made the decision to share the vision of Outback Community Mission publicly. While the initiative has not yet fully taken off, it marked an important milestone—laying the foundation for what OCM can and will become.

Faith and Growth

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." – Jeremiah 29:11

As I work toward completing my Theology and Ministry degree in 2025, I see OCM as both a reflection of my faith and a way to live out my calling. The journey so far has been humbling, filled with moments of doubt and learning, but also rich with opportunities to trust in God’s plan.

OCM is still in its infancy, but the dream remains alive and vibrant. With the continued support of my family, my church, and my studies, I’m confident that this mission will grow to fulfil its purpose of making a tangible difference in the Outback.
